When I chose to volunteer on the Campaign Cabinet for the United Way Halton & Hamilton, I did so because I believe in giving back, in helping those needing it, and in the UWHH and their exceptional work in the community. Pulling my weight, pulling strings, pulling teeth maybe, but I certainly didn’t have pulling a plane in mind when I volunteered.
What do I mean by “the UWHH and their exceptional work in the community”?
- The UWHH supports 90 social service agencies in Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Halton and Hamilton.
- The UWHH funds 153 solution focused local programs.
- Helping kids be all they can be, moving those in poverty to possibility, and building strong communities.
- And directly improving and impacting the lives of over 212,000 people in these communities. (that’s not a typo)
We have an ambitious goal of raising over $10 million this year, yet despite everyone doing their best, the funds are not nearly enough to help them do their utmost.
Can you help? We’re holding a kick-off event for the campaign on September 15th with of all things, a PLANE PULL!! and no I’m not pulling your leg (pun intended). Didn’t anyone warn the organizers about old guys with bad backs? I’ll be on a team of competing with other teams for the fastest times (although I’m less interested in finishing fast and more interested in surviving).
You may already give to the United Way, and if you do many thanks!! Regardless, I’m asking you to consider a donation in support of my efforts (aka grunting, groaning and exertions) with a pledge towards this affair. Maybe the idea of helping kids be all they can be touches you, or moving from poverty to possibility resonates, or building strong communities inspires you. Whichever it is, it’s where the United Way Halton & Hamilton helps, and where your dollars are most needed. Please click here to go to my webpage to make a donation.
On a bigger scale, please consider entering your own team. If you want to discuss that, drop me a line.
With anticipation and some anxiety, I look forward to this event on September 15th, and thank you for your consideration and support.
